Retha Doiley-Miller

I have great respect for her as an individual and as a professional and am confident that she is deserving of an award. Retha has impressed me with her intense focus and commitment to HVCC and in her diligent pursuit of her MBA. Sandra Gepfert
Instructor, Medical Imaging Department

“Sandra is highly intelligent, a motivated individual, and always strives for excellence. She is an exemplary educator and a model employee.  Sandra continues to demonstrate her dedication to this program and its students by assisting in the preparation for a fall 2016 site visit from our accrediting body. She is also an academic advisor for the students in the DMS program, works closely with admissions to review applicants for the following year, and provides remediation lab sessions for current students that our struggling with difficult program content. Sandra maintains the high standards required of both the college and the profession and demands the same from her students.”

Christine Jenkins
Assistant Professor, Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department

“In addition to teaching at HVCC, Christine is a Certified Athletic Trainer and has been leading the effort at the capital to lobby for a bill that will improve rights and protections for Athletic Trainers throughout all of NY State. In January, Christine received the Kent Scriber Recognition Award presented by the New York State Athletic Trainers’ Association. She was also accepted to give a presentation at the National Athletic Training Conference this June in Baltimore. Christine saw the need for, and then created, an online Sports and Exercise Nutrition class last year. In addition, she developed a hands-on “Science of Sport” summer camp last year for the college and will run it again this summer. Christine is a vital part of our department who is always striving to be the best teacher (and person) she can be.”

Shawn Jeune
Instructor, Nursing Department

“Shawn Jeune is an exceptional faculty member! While working as Nursing department faculty, Shawn went back to college and obtained his certification in Surgical Technology. Then, while continuing to work, Shawn developed our Surgical Tech AAS and Certificate programs. Currently, in addition to working full time as the Program Director for the Surgical Tech programs and working adjunct for Nursing, Shawn is taking courses towards his DNS at Sage Colleges. He is doing all of this while completing the Surgical Tech Self Study and preparing the program for an initial accreditation visit this summer/fall. His work ethic is exceptional and his caring attitude has helped his students.”

Ian is involved in a number of campus committees, which further exemplifies his commitment to higher education.  Ian is an exceptional individual. Not only does he possess a strong work ethic, but he has demonstrated the motivation necessary to be successful, within both the academic and administrative environments.”  “Ian works with the HVCC veteran population and the New York State Tuition Assistance Program certification process. Ian is always positive and he is a consummate student advocate who is committed to the mission of the College.”

Melissa Melucci

“Melissa provides students with career, resume and work study opportunities and support. She has shown to be a great counselor and lends support to not only her students but her co-workers. Melissa is always ready and eager to learn or take on a project. She has decided to continue on with her education and is pursuing a master’s degree at The College of St. Rose majoring in College Student Services Administration. Melissa is juggling both work and school and I think she would be honored to receive this scholarship and award.”

Brian Wickham
Instructor, Advanced Manufacturing Department
Pursuing a Master’s Degree

“Brian Wickham is a young man who has worked hard to get where he now stands. He was hired as an adjunct for the HVCC Advanced Manufacturing Program and has put many additional hours into assisting with many repairs, upgrades, and development for the AMT Labs, courses and program. This is a young man who is driven to perform at a high level and has become a tremendous asset to our program. He brought ten years of highly technical current experience to our program, and a youthful outlook; an ability to understand current student perspective, but also a viewpoint from management and educated profession technician level. He is a great asset to the college and I would love to see his continued pursuit of lifelong learning rewarded and encouraged.”

 

Sarah Witte
Instructor, Medical Imaging Department
Pursuing a Master’s Degree

“Sarah exhibits an enormous passion in her teaching practice. As a new full-time faculty member in the Medical Imaging Department she strives to “do it right.”  Sarah is working hard to establish her classes at HVCC, evaluating students in their clinical environment, working on accreditation for the Sonography program, establishing clinical affiliations, and obtaining her MS degree in Curriculum Development and Instruction Technology through the Theory and Practice Department of SUNY Albany.”
